Library Week Celebrations!

Hi Everyone,

As per the Schedule, we Celebrated our “Library Week” between 12th April and 16th April. It was a gala time for our students. There were so many book sessions and story telling sessions, definitely it had an impact on students and we could see the changes that took place soon after the event.

Story Teller, Deepa Kiran’s story of “Camelia” became very popular among the kids, and in fact her book sessions with the MYP students was so interesting. Students of Grade IV & V were very excited, they had a session with author Ms.Katia, her book ‘Amadi’s Snowman’ became very popular. It was a wonderful experience for them. Mr.Jaffar’s talk about the importance of reading had an immediate effect on the Students, they realized the importance of reading, the students of grade IX almost ransacked the Library(Borrowed books for reading), soon after the session.

The Quiz competition was so interesting too, grade VII & VIII students took part in that event. What a Colour and what an enjoyment, we were successful in making our School Library a Centre of attraction and activities.

All our ideas are to associate reading with learning and with having fun. The LIBRARY WEEK was a roaring success. The Winners of various competitions were awarded prizes and certificates.

Few Pics for you:

” Book Week” at Indus -

Written By Students of Grade IV:

Everyone has heard of the word “book” right? But why are books so important? Books play an important part of our lives because they: Broaden our imagination Give us interesting vocabulary Relax and strengthen our mind Let us have fun and be more intelligent How do students feel about books? I’m sure every teacher and parent has bombarded us with orders to read. But many students don’t listen and end up whiling away their time playing video games, watching television etc. These either decrease brain power or keep it hovering somewhere. Those who do listen, good for them! As Mr. Walt Disney said “There is more treasure in books than all the pirate loot in Treasure Island.” It’s good to read so that you can get through school easily and to motivate students to read, Indus International School has set up “Book Week”. Book week is a celebration of reading. It motivates good reading. We will be doing fun activities like slogan writing, writing book reviews, making book marks and writing stories. But, of course, you have to read! After the Indus school activities on the 12th we have two special guests coming to our school on 13th and 14th. They are Mrs. Katia Novet Saint Lot, the author of “Amadi’s Snowman” and Mrs. Dipa Kiran. They are going to conduct a few activities for us. To wrap it up on the 16th we have a Book Fair. You can buy a lot of books to read at home. What fun! The class of Grade 4 thinks that “Book Week” Is a wonderful opportunity to read new books and learn about them. We are so into reading that we even compete to see who reads the most books. Everyone should be excited about “Book Week” and we look forward to seeing you at the “Book Week”. – Varun Muppidi Grade 4

Importance of Reading In today’s world of internet, television and multimedia reading is still the most essential skill to get knowledge. Books are considered to be man’s best friend. Reading helps to improve our concentration and thinking skills. It also improves our vocabulary and communication skills. Books prevent our brain from being idle. They take us into a beautiful world of imagination and knowledge. We many read for pleasure or to know new things. So friends stop being couch potatoes and read! -Aurodeep Ray Grade 4
