Reflection on International School Library Day

                           Reflection

by Desdemona, Grade 6.

I really got excited when the library teacher told us that we were going to have a library week this week. It was from 18th of October to the 22th of October I waited till the end of the day for the library period because we could then go to the book fair that was set up in the AV room and we could chose what book we could buy on the PTM. When we went to the book fair I immediately started to choose what books I wanted to buy at the PTM. I saw many lovely books fully of stuff I liked to read. I also was looking forward for Thursday when I would be dressing up for the Character dress up. I wanted to dress up as Harry Potter even though i am a girl but Harry Potter is a boy. On 19th October (Tuesday) I had the Oral Book Review competition. I talked about the book Percy Jackson and the Lighting thief. I think I told well in the competition. On Thursday I dressed up as Harry Potter. Everyone looked at me like I was a ghost. we also had a book talk by Roopa Pai in the afternoon. I really liked the Library week because I had lots of fun. It was awesome.

Roopa Pai & Deepa Kiran

The children’s author Roopa Pai was invited to do a book reading for our students, she happily consented to be a part of the celebrations and was here on time, students were very happy to interact with her and the way she read the story with the activities were really superb.

The specialist story teller Deepa Kiran and her session with the students was very interesting and entertaining. Students enjoyed her sessions. As a practitioner of movement therapy she has them incorporated into the story telling, was  very innovative.

I Must congratulate the students who have dressed up like characters from your favourite fictions and entertain the students, it was so fun to watch them at the same time it had a theme behind it, i.e., read, read & read.  few pics for you followed by a reflection of our students,

Library Week - 2010

‘Library Week’ was – there was no other word for it – fun ! You might thing we had to sit and read for hours together, but as a matter-of-fact, it was nothing like that………

It started of with an assembly and Mr. Tucker came to give a brief speech on ‘reading’.

Later on, the younger kids (PYP students) got to do some activities. They colored, wrote stories and read and had the most enjoyable time ever.

Meanwhile, a Book Report Competition was being held for us MSPs. You had to talk a book review on any book you have read. The judges would choose who had done the best and award them. All the contestants were from 6th grade. Natalie got 1st place, Loren got 2nd place, and Rishika got 3rd place. Let me take a moment to mention the other participants – Desdemona and Anirudh!

Also, Roopa Pai the author of The ‘Taranauts’ series arrived to talk about her books and the forthcoming release of ‘The Race for the Glo Rubies’, the 4th book in the series. We did activities and puzzles on the books and had a fabulous time listening to her read a small snippet from book 3.

We also learned that Library Week was not just about reading, playing games or doing activities, it is held to understand the importance of reading and the impact it brings on us. It is fun, and effective in many ways. We improve our grammar and vocabulary too. Overall, Library Week was a great experience for everyone and we all are looking forward for another!

International School Library Day

The Celebration Continues, grades VI,VII & VIII had Book review competition on the 19th of october, many students took part in the competition. It was a debut for some of the students, they expressed that it was a great opportunity for them to come out and take part in the competition and a chance to get rid of their stage fear too.  Book reviews are from various novels like Percy Jackson to Lord of the rings and continued with Roopa Pai’s Taranauts series.  It was one of the motivating factor for the audience that they were really excited and are willing to read the books(the books that was reviewed especially).
